Equestrian News – the Addington Championships
A very excited cohort of MSJ riders set off for the Addington Championships during Half Term. We were represented at this prestigious event by Eve Hobbs, Izzy Lee, Ginny Wood, Genevieve Manning, Jess Morris, Tiggy Manning and Hattie Gill. This has become the highlight of the girls’ competitive riding during the School year, as it is such a great achievement to qualify.
This year there were around 40 schools from all around the UK competing in each class, so for each event our girls were competing against between 120 and 192 riders and horses – a significant challenge! The competition was run over 3 days, so horses were stabled on site and the riders and grooms (i.e. Mums!) stayed in their lorries or at nearby hotels. Over the 3 days a staggering 897 horses from all over the UK competed!
Team MSJ had a strong presence at the event as our girls had been successful in qualifying for 5 classes. Our Dressage Team of Eve, Jess, Genevieve and Tiggy (3 of whom are Riding Scholars) did incredibly well to achieve 8th place, with every one of our riders placed in the top ten in each of their arenas. All of the girls rode very well over the 3 days and our two Show Jumping teams and Jumping With Style team narrowly missed a placing this time.
Mrs Manning said “The girls had a great time as usual; they all support each other and work really hard to achieve their dreams. They all want to win, so there is great jubilation when they get placed and of course sincere commiserations when they lose!”
