Silver Medal for U11 Football Team
Malvern St James’s Under 11 footballers made the long journey to LVS Ascot School on Thursday 13 October to participate in the inaugural ISA Girls’ Football Festival.
The girls, who have only been playing football for four weeks, played fantastically well. They contested three group matches, drawing two and losing the other. This was enough to qualify the team for the semi-final of the Plate competition, a match they won 2 - 0, with Grace Downey (Year 6), scoring both goals. In the final the girls again played really well. The match ended 0 - 0 after extra time, with MSJ girls ultimately losing only on penalty kicks.
In their five matches the girls conceded just one goal and were one of only two teams to score two goals in a game in the whole tournament. Special congratulations to Isla Wall (Year 3), who played with and against girls considerably older than herself and was the only one of three MSJ girls to score in the penalty shoot-out.
