Reeling at Eton by Linnea Gannon, Head of Reeling Society
Having broken the ice of first meeting within seconds, the conversation was easy and casual for all. The Grand Hall was echoing with chatter and excitement for the night’s reels.
We sat down to a lovely two-course dinner, which was then followed by the main event, the reels. The girls had spent weeks practicing and once all dance cards were filled, the event really rocked off. The classic Dashing White Sergeant put each and every person in the mood and the laughs and enjoyment were visible on every face. The excitement continued unabated during the next four reels.
With the dancing complete, we were then graced with exquisite renditions of Auld Lang Syne and the Flower of Scotland played by two of the Eton boys on the bagpipes. The farewells were sad but not devastating as the evening had created new friendships between Eton boys and the girls of MSJ. It was a brilliant night and much appreciated by all.
