Danger Author Visits Malvern St James

Prep Trips & Visits

Multi-award-winning stand-up comedian and writer David O’Doherty visited MSJ on Tuesday, 4 October to entertain pupils from local schools with tales from his new book, Danger Really is Everywhere: School of Danger.

Our own Prep girls from Years 5 and 6 plus pupils from Malvern Parish C of E Primary School, Malvern Wells C of E Primary School and Pitmaston Primary School enjoyed a lively afternoon listening to David talk about all things dangerous – from making toast to walking in the park. He also told everyone about the dangers that his central character, Doctor Noel Zone, encounters on a daily basis on his mission to find out whether any of the staff at the school he works at are vampires or robots.

Lilia Mico, Year 5 said “David was hilarious and interacted with the audience brilliantly. He was imaginative, inventing the classroom chameleon, the page nine scorpion and many others. He was surprising, telling us to clap safely by keeping our fingers together. It was all very funny and well thought out and he let the audience make suggestions for characters and super heroes. Everyone had a lovely time and David was kind enough to give us free samples of the best bits in his books. It encouraged everyone to read his brilliant book, Danger Really is Everywhere.”

David commented, “I was really struck by the enthusiasm of the staff from the library and school, plus they weren’t vampires. Also I didn’t meet any ghosts. Woo hoo!”

David is a regular guest on television shows such as QI, Have I Got News for You and Would I Lie to You? He has also written two theatre shows for children.  We are most grateful to AuthorsAloud UK, who sponsored his visit.
