Double Success for Star Sportswoman
Lucy Walton, joint Head Girl at Malvern St James Girls’ School, is celebrating after a momentous week in which she achieved two sporting successes on consecutive days.
Lucy won the Worcestershire & Herefordshire Ladies County Golf Association’s County Junior Golf Championship, held at The Vale Golf Club, Evesham. Her morning round of gross 71 (3 under par) broke the course record for The Vale. This is the third year in a row that Lucy has won this competition and the fourth altogether. To add to the excitement, the competition was a Daily Telegraph qualifier and with a score of -3 she hopes to be one of nine girls nationally who will qualify for the Grand Finals which will be played at the World-renowned Quinta do Lago, Portugal in November.
Lucy now holds the course record for both The Vale and her own club, The Worcestershire.
The day after winning the County Junior Golf Championship, Lucy heard that she has been selected to represent England Hockey at the 2016 Schools Games in September at Loughborough University. Three squads of 16 players, all Under 17s, have been selected. This fantastic achievement follows her selection for and her attendance at A.A.S.E. (Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence) camps over the last nine months.
Lucy is now in the very unusual and very privileged position of representing two sports at National level – England Hockey at the Sainsbury's Games the first weekend in September and England Schools Golf the following weekend in her match versus Scotland.
Lucy says, “I’m so thrilled to have won the Junior Golf Championship and been chosen to represent England Hockey in the same week. I’m looking forward to my next matches in September now, as well as finding out if I’ll be going to Portugal in November.”
