New Football Club for MSJ

Sport Extra Curricular

MSJ Football Club held its first training session on 21 April.  This new club has been formed by Ms Detnon, Housemistress of Batsford, and has really caught the imagination of our Prep girls.

19 girls from Years 4 to 6 turned up keen to begin training in the gardens of Avenue.  Prep teacher, Mr Ian Fry, who coaches the Droitwich Spa Ladies team, ran the session.  The girls were extremely enthusiastic and after this initial experience the increase in their skills and confidence was clear to see.

The session was also supported by Mr Mark Taylor, a member of our staff community, and his daughter Brooke who plays with the U9 squad at Birmingham City Ladies Football Club.  MSJ are building a relationship with Birmingham City Ladies FC and we have just agreed to sponsor Brooke and one of their senior players, Connie Schofield (voted Centre of Excellence Player of the Year in 2015).

Ms Detnon explains “I have wanted to set up a football club for a while and at the end of last term I was delighted to receive the go-ahead to offer it as an extra-curricular activity. Eventually I hope to expand to older year groups if there is interest and I will work towards inter-school matches and also offer trips to take girls to watch Birmingham City Ladies play at home.  I am very excited that MSJ is able to offer this inspiring new opportunity to our girls”.
