Success for MSJ Ski Racers
The MSJ ski teams competed with style in the Skiplex ISA Ski Racing Indoor Championships on 25 April. The day commenced at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead with the junior races, where Alice Bond (Year 1) came second in the U8 Girls and her sister Martha (Year 4) achieved 4th place in the U10 Girls, missing out on third position by less than a tenth of a second! The award for guts and determination went to Annie Morris (Year 1) who, having never raced before, took a tumble on her first run as she descended the steep starting slope and again on her second run as she pushed herself to the limit, but each time she picked herself up and went on to complete the course, helping the MSJ Junior Team secure a tremendous second place in the Girls’ team event.
The first racer of the afternoon, wearing bib number 1, was our other heroine of the day, Jemima Green (Year 6), who had stepped in at the last minute as a substitute. Despite still being in Prep, and having only raced a couple of times before, Jemima took her place in the Senior Team alongside our experienced racers Marnie Probert (Year 7) and Ibble Watson (Year 8). Jemima kept her cool throughout and made a very good time, securing 17th place in the U14 Girls individual event. Congratulations to Ibble, who gave a superb performance to win the U14 Girls. She might have made it look easy, but, bearing in mind the competition, this result was no mean feat. Ninth place in the under 14s went to Marnie, who clearly relished every second of the race. Jemima, Marnie and Ibble went on to achieve an impressive third place in the Girls ISA school team event.
Thank you to Mrs Bevan for driving Jemima and Ibble to and from the event, to Mr Morris for helping Ms Bond with the juniors and to Marnie and Ibble for diligently looking after the younger team members.
