OLD GIRLS
Five Old Girls performed with the Malvern Big Band
Heather Porter, Natalie Halliday, Anne Lunn, Gabi Grandi and Jessica Davies took part in an evening of jazz and swing.
On Friday 11 September, the York Hall of Malvern St James was alive with the infectious sounds of the Malvern Big Band. Mike Halliday, who leads the band, gave the Old Girls a special mention. Heather was playing the Tenor Saxophone for the Big Band. Anne played the violin with the MSJ String Orchestra and Jessica and Natalie, the cello.
The concert also saw an opportunity to showcase two talented young singers from MSJ, current sixth former Francesca Hill and Old Girl Gabi Grandi. Their performances were met with rapturous applause from the enthusiastic audience.
The string section joined the band for the second half of the programme. Their refined sound demonstrated clearly the talent in the strings department of MSJ. The orchestra was led by Noriko Tsuzaki from the English String Orchestra. The ESO is a classical music organisation based in Worcestershire. In 2008 the ESO decided to make their home at Malvern St James and will present a concert each term.
All Old Girls are warmly invited to attend any concerts and receive information about forthcoming concerts from The Music Department Administrator, Amanda Langard.
