Outdoor Pursuits in the Summer Term – a report by Miss Cole

In June Year 9 girls attended an Adventure Activity Trip to Gilwern, near Abergavenny. The varied programme of activities included canoeing, caving and climbing. Initial nerves were soon overcome and many girls surprised themselves by completing difficult challenges. Everyone left Gilwern with a real sense of satisfaction and achievement. Apart from having a great time, the underlying point of the trip was for the girls to live and work together in challenging situations and so develop their friendships and good teamwork.

This term three evenings a week have been devoted to adventurous activities, with climbing on Mondays, sailing on Tuesdays and rowing on Fridays.

Girls from Years 7 to 13 have enjoyed climbing at The Warehouse in Gloucester throughout the year and have been working their way through Level 1 and 2 of the NICAS Award Scheme. Their skills have been much appreciated during Open Mornings, when they have demonstrated our climbing wall to visitors.

Sailing takes place on a small lake at Croft Farm in Bredon and has provided a very welcome break from exams and revision. Our Rowing Club has expanded with the addition of some very enthusiastic Year 7s and it has been wonderful to watch them grow in confidence and ability.

All these activities will continue into the Autumn Term and girls from Year 7 are very welcome to join.
