SENIOR SCHOOL
Berlin Trip

A trip to Berlin was organised for students in Years 10 to 13 over the Easter holidays. There were many historic sites to explore including the Brandenburg Gate, Unter den Linden and the Gendarmerie Platz. Everyone found the mixture of old and new very impressive. The Jewish Museum and the Wannsee Villa were particularly inspiring and extended the girls' knowledge of the Holocaust, whilst the remains of the Berlin Wall were also very thought provoking. The evenings were an opportunity to enjoy modern German culture, with visits to Alexanderplatz, The Sony Centre, TV Tower and the surrounding cafes.
Alice Porter, Year 13, explains, ‘The Berlin trip was really fantastic. The city has such a diverse history and we all got a flavour of both the Nazi era and the Cold War. Seeing the remains of the Berlin Wall was amazing and the Reichstag was an incredible building. The Jewish Museum was very thought provoking and it really put into context what we had learnt about Nazi Germany'.
Charlotte Stanton, Year 13, agrees, ‘The trip to Berlin was thoroughly enjoyable. All the sites and museums were very interesting and insightful with very good guides. The mix of year groups worked well and we had such fun. Thank you to the History department for organising the trip'.
