University Challenge Comes to Malvern!

Malvern St James was delighted to host a heat as part of the Junior Schools Challenge Competition. The general knowledge competition has been running for twenty-seven years and mimics the popular TV programme,University Challenge. In 2009, over two-hundred schools in the UK took part.

The country is divided into sixteen regions and each region is run as a separate competition on a knockout basis. Malvern St James hosted one of the Bristol and West Midlands heats which included teams from RGS Worcester, St Mary's and Kings Worcester. After a very close final match, (down to the last question!) Royal Grammar School won the event and will be heading to the Regional Finals.

The MSJ team was made up of Lucy Walton, Lucinda Hobden, Georgina Hobden, Madeleine Longshaw, Amelia Williams and Flora Barber.

Mrs Sherwood said, ‘We were very proud of the girls, they worked really well as a team'.

Regional Organiser of the event, Sue Berridge said, ‘ Students love to take part in this competition as it gives them the opportunity to work as a team and test their general knowledge. Using the buzzers for the starter questions makes it very like the television programme.'
