OLD GIRLS
Careers and Higher Education Fair at Malvern St James
Old Girls attended as Delegates on Friday 12 February 2010. Miss Samantha Marfleet, Head of Careers at MSJ, organised this event for girls and their parents to attend on the Friday before half term began.
The OGA is delighted that the following Old Girls and relatives of Old Girls were involved in this very successful event.
Nina Waddell (Ince, MGC 1976) agreed to come after being approached at the Oxford Reunion and represented Dental Surgery
Annabel Rayer (Warner, MGC 2002), pictured above, worked for the PR company MSJ uses, Montpelier, but has recently set up her own company ‘Silver Ball'. Annabel specialises in Public Relations to the Travel and Leisure Industry and is based nearby in Cheltenham. Annabel had produced several fantastic guides – a CV Guide, Finding PR work experience and her ‘Silver Ball PR Jargon Buster' – which were available for the girls.
Jo Charles (MGC 1987) Senior Lecturer in Equine Studies at Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester attended after meeting Samantha Marfleet at a function. This was the first time Jo had returned since she left. Her father Reverend Jonathan Charles was the Chaplain at MGC, appointed in 1985 after the link with Malvern Priory came to an end.
Ottoline Scriven (MGC 2004) was back in the UK during the long vacation from Tsinghua University where she is studying for a Masters in International Development. Otto, a former Head Girl, applied to the OGA for support and the OGA was delighted to give her with a Travel Award. Otto plans to stay in Beijing for at least the next two years, to complete her course in a year and a half, and follow this up with an intensive study of Chinese for the 6 months following it. It was great for girls to meet Otto and realise the many fantastic opportunities for study there are, all over the world.
Stephen Bowen, the son of Penny Smith (Reay, St J's & A 1980), one of our Vice-Chairmen, represented KPMG as a Graduate Trainee Accountant. Stephen had said that he would have welcomed more opportunities for Careers advice when he was at school and so was keen to attend and share his recent experiences.
Nicholas Burt was the delegate for Orchards Cookey Limited and his wife Isabel (Bomford, St J's & A) is an Old Girl.
Hannah Plant, the Chairman of the OGA and Elisabeth Rambridge, OGA Secretary are very grateful to the above for their contribution which was much valued by the girls and their parents and the Staff.
