Old Girls' Association Award to CICERO

The CICERO Classics Competition is sponsored by the OGA. The OGA is delighted to support the CICERO Classics Competition which has many links with Malvern St James.  CICERO was co-founded by Mrs Anne Dicks who teaches Classics at Malvern St James and Patrick Voisin in France two years ago. CICERO aims to bring Classicists from different backgrounds in Europe together.

Two extremely demanding examinations are set, with students competing for national and international prizes. CICERO supporters include politician Boris Johnson and TV personality Tony Robinson. In 2010 CICERO expands from Europe to go inter-continental and will include centres in Tunisia and Australia.

Old Girl Imogen Goodier teaches Classics at Hazelwick School in Surrey and one of her students Liam Erskine won the UK Latin translation section to be awarded the Malvern St James CICERO cup in 2009.

The organisers of CICERO UK are pictured at the 2009 competition. Anne Dicks is co-founder and Webmaster, Judy Nesbit is Chief Examiner and Old Girl Emily Davies is Assistant Marker and Facebook co-ordinator. Emily graduated in Classics from Durham University last year. Judy, who taught at Malvern Girls' College and is now Head of Classics at Bristol Grammar School, said, ‘The translation that the students undertook is much harder than anything they will be set at A Level or International Baccalaureate'.

Anne Dicks would love to hear from Old Girls (ex-Classicists or not!) via their website http://www.ciceroconcordia.com/ .
