Malvern St James Co-Curricular Activities

MSJ Co-curricular

For girls to be all-rounded individuals' co-curricular activities need to be embraced alongside academic studies. Following the Activities Fair at the start of each academic year each girl works alongside her Form Tutor to explore the activities in which she would like to participate. Girls are also encouraged to start their own clubs and societies so they can share their interests with others.

We help her to ensure a balance is struck between co-curricular and academic activities, and between developing existing interests and talents and encouraging girls to step out of their comfort zone and try new activities.

By raising expectations and personal horizons, girls at Malvern St James grow in self-belief, self-esteem and confidence. They leave School poised and articulate, with the aspiration and skills to achieve in the challenging world that exists beyond School.

Malvern St James recognises universities and employers are looking for highly developed: thinking skills, independent learning skills, creative skills, leadership skills, flexible skills, communication skills, inter-personal skills, personal interests and a passion for life.

Curriculum Enrichment

To support girls in developing these skills, we offer an Education Enrichment Programme, taught as part of the GCSE and Sixth Form timetable. This includes:

  • Independent Learning
  • Information Literacy Skills
  • The Extended Project Qualification (Year 12/13)

Beyond the curriculum, students are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which also form an integral part of their education here. Every girl is able to broaden her skill set and gain qualifications and recognition for her talents and abilities.

Formal examinations are available for:

  • Music, Speech and Drama: Guildhall; Trinity; Associated Boards; LAMDA;
  • The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme: Gold, Silver, Bronze
  • Arts Council Arts Awards
  • RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (age 16+)
  • Community Sports Leadership Award (Year 12)
  • Additional GCSE and A Level Languages
