At weekends and after school there is plenty of opportunity for girls to get out and about. There is a range of different activities available according to the season.
Rock-climbing and abseiling, caving, skiing and snowboarding, windsurfing and sailing are some of the events on offer. The School swimming pool provides an excellent opportunity for girls to enjoy kayaking in warm waters before venturing out onto local pools and rivers.
Residential trips are organised for Year 7 and Year 9, particularly timed for important stages of School life. The trips use challenging activities to help personal learning, build up individual confidence, whilst emphasising the importance of teamwork.
Outdoor Pursuits offers something different every weekend, a programme of activities is published every term and girls are advised to sign up quickly. These are valuable opportunities to learn and enjoy, be challenged and be adventurous in a safe environment, to make new friends and enjoy new experiences. It is a chance to sample different activities, which may then be continued as hobbies in later years.
Recognised as the world’s leading achievement for young people, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme is a real adventure from beginning to end! The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is proudly offered by Malvern St James at all three levels, from Bronze, through Silver and culminating in Gold. It is a national and international Scheme of Achievement recognised by schools, universities and employers. The different elements of the Award are designed to be a balance to your academic life, in that they are activities that happen outside of School life and outside of the classroom. It fosters self-sufficiency, responsibility, independence, leadership and teamwork, all within a safe and enjoyable environment. It encourages you to learn new skills, meet new people and to be of service to others. The award involves commitment to four different sections. For the Gold standard, participants must also complete a residential section. Each must be followed for a particular length of time, depending upon which level: Gold, Silver or Bronze.
The four sections are:
All of the above activities and more are available at Malvern St James. Successful completion of all the sections at any of the levels demands commitment and hard work, but the pleasure of involvement and feelings of high achievement make it a very rewarding experience. How can you not be involved?
