Our aim is to ensure our bilingual students are able to access the whole curriculum, by developing the English skills of those girls who need it we help them enter the global community with ease, confidence and understanding.
We’ll create an appropriate course for each pupil and provide an atmosphere of cooperation and integration. All EAL pupils are encouraged to approach the department for support in their coursework and/or improving their language skills as required. For example, they may require help with course work or projects and for UCAS applications.
One to one tuition is individually tailored to a student’s level of English and their curriculum needs. Year 9, 10 and 11 pupils have a one hour EAL class a week, designed to develop their language sophistication and accuracy.
Pupils new to the Sixth form are entered for IELTS (International English Language Testing System), which is an internationally recognised qualification. A grade of 6.5 or above is required for University entrance in Britain.
