We believe that happy and healthy girls have the greatest potential to learn and will be able to get the most from their MSJ experience. Their wellbeing is of the upmost importance to us. We have a dedicated Health and Wellbeing Centre on the school site, devoted to supporting our girls to lead healthy lifestyles and to keep them as informed and aware as possible when it comes looking after their own physical and mental health.
All of our qualified nurses are great listeners and love to talk to the girls about their lives and cultures. When emotional health is affected the team is there to support the girls and to liaise with staff within the MSJ community to alleviate any homesickness, stress and anxiety, and work to restore a sense of wellbeing.
We provide direct care and treatment to the girls if they sustain an injury or become unwell. A nurse is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at School and is based in the Health and Wellbeing Centre. On four mornings each week during term time, a Doctor from our local Doctors Surgery visits the School and girls can book an appointment through the Health and Wellbeing Centre or simply turn up on the day.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre has 10 private rooms where girls can stay, away from their Boarding House, to recuperate and ensure they are feeling well before returning to their studies. The Centre also has dedicated ‘drop in’ sessions. During these times, staff talk to the girls, parents or guardians and Boarding House staff to provide both knowledge and reassurance, with regular updates and medical explanations.
In order to prevent illness, the Centre runs regular vaccination clinics to ensure that each girl has the opportunity to have all of the childhood vaccinations she requires to protect her throughout her lifetime. The School also offers travel vaccinations for all girls travelling abroad during the holidays.
The Health and Wellbeing Centre Team is proactive at promoting good physical health and mental wellbeing and does this in a variety of ways: through timetabled Personal, Social and Health, Economic Education and Citizenship (PSHEEC) lessons, talking to the girls as they visit the Health and Wellbeing Centre, and through an extensive series of talks and presentations in the Boarding Houses. Through the promotion of a good diet and an active lifestyle, MSJ girls are equipped with important skills for life.
By working together as a community, the Health and Wellbeing Centre is an effective team delivering exceptional care, kindness and support to MSJ girls.
